Rethymno. Town at the north coast of Crete. Rethymno belongs to the most beautiful Greek towns, since it harmonically combines historical elements (picturesque alleys, Venetian and Turkish mansions etc.) and elements of modern town building. Among others the most important sights are the Venetian fortress (Fortezza), the Venetian Loggia, which today houses the archaeological museum, the Venetian Church of Aghios Frankiskos, the picturesque port, as well as the mosques of Mousa Pasa and Neratze Mastaba. The modern town was built in the place where the ancient Minoan city of Rithimna once flourished. The HOTEL ANITA BEACH is situated east of Rethymno at a distance of 2.5 km.
